My perception of this two “concepts” was, in the past, marked by many misunderstandings and wrong interpretations. Here I want to share with you my new vision about this important state of being.
Did you remember my article about painting ? Like I said, in the beginning I was very bored, painting here and there, then, after a while, something come up and did the painting, then, I come back in wonder. This is one of the case in which the phrase “everything is happening, but nothing is done” has a new meaning, and, also, the word
“desirelessness”.
So “desirelessness” is not that there are not desires and “not doing” is not that we need to stay all day on the sofa doing nothing
in deep laziness.
“Not doing” and desirelessness are both active terms, laziness is a passive one, but like I said they can be easily misunderstood and mixed (that was my experience).
Desirelessness is not that there are not desires, but, that there are not desires of the “I”, so really, there are many desires and you are bringing them to reality, but really you are doing nothing because in the first place, you are really not there and this is not happening from deep laziness but instead from fervent activities, the only thing is that you are not who is creating the acting, you are a passage for it, an hollow bamboo.
There has to be a strong connection/interaction between the “I” and the existence (universe) for the desire to take place, so, for me, more than “the I is not there” I will like to say that the “I” is merged totally with the universal consciousness; and so, yes, there is not, but at the same time there is, because it is bringing that desire to the world, but in a form that, because it is totally merged, we can say that it is not.
It is like some sages that said that: we are the hands of God in this world.
We can think of it like the wave (the I) is merging in the ocean, grasping the creative force there and then be back again doing the desire of the existence (the creative action) that it grasped in the oceanic (unity with the all) stage.
We can call this process synchronicity.
“Not doing” means to be in a receptive state so we can “hear” the desires coming up from the universal consciousness (in desirelessness) and materialize them.
In doing so, it may be necessary to do some “work” (do something), or not so much, that will depend on the desire; the only thing we can be certain of, is that the most part of the work will be on the shoulder of the universe, we will have the final, decisive part, being able to bring the desire to reality. This will be the greatest fulfillment for us.
We can simplify saying that there are two “states”: the fist state is the standby (not doing state) in which we are receptive to universal desires, then it came the “doing” state, in which we grasped it (the desire) and we actually help bringing it to reality, without doing, because we are merged with the desire itself, we are one with it and with the universe who is having that desire in the present moment, the now.
We are doing it but we are empowered by the universal creative power.
